View Full Version : NYCC Sketchbook 09
Hey guys, I posted all the sketch I got at NYCC on my Facebook album.
For those of you who aren't my friends, you can find them here :

Some real gems. I'm really proud. :coolgleam:
Megan McKeenan? Charlotte? Blueberry! Nathan Fox? 24seven? Whatç Chiang drawing that you're reading?
What did those sketches cost you? Gathering info for 2010 here. :D
Megan McKeenan : main character from Local maxi serie (Oni Press) by Brian Wood and Ryan Kelly
Charlotte : from the Italian comics Garrett which mixes western and zombies and features artists from Vertigo titles
Nathan Fox : had never heard of him before seeing his work in the pages of DMZ as guest artist. I know he did Pigeons from Hell for Dark Horse. He reminds me a bit of Paul Pope, hence the love.
24Seven : comics anthologies where NYC is populated by robots. Lots of great artists. Edited by the guy who did the NYC Mech books.
Chiang isn't drawing any books I'm reading at the moment, I just love his style and he was ultra nice.
The only one who charged me for a sketch was Cameron Stewart but his sketch was twice as big as any other. Made me pay 15$ for it.
What? Only $15 for those sketches? Awsome! (okay, there are a few of them that really aren't worth anything, but still...)
Hey, they are all worth something to me.
Basically, you just walk up to the guy and tell him "Is there any chance of getting a free quick sketch?". You got either a "Yeah, sure, it won't be too elaborate but I can do something quick" or you get a "I'm sorry, I'm already buried in comissions that I need to finish so really I won't be able to do it, I can sign a comic book if you want though".
Tommy Lee Edward told me "No sketchy for Frenchy". :D
LOL, the bastard.
I meant that some aren't stuff you should have to pay for, they're (or at least seem ) too quick for that. But they're all great. With the exception of the Azarello(?) Batman. ;)

Something about the Taskmaster sketch really appeals to me. ^_^ And the Great Machine quickie... man, you're such a fortunate bastard, Arn. ^_^

Yeah the Taskmaster is hot. But really, they are all super freaking cool. Very good collection you got there man.
$15 for that is a bargain mate.

Glad to see you got to see Cameron Stewart and Karl Kerschl. Those guys are awesome. Jill and I spent the majority of the Calgary con hanging out with Karl, Karl's friend, and Karl's girlfriend (wife?). They were awesome.
And I spent about $250 on half that many sketches at the Calgary Con, MGM. Then again, $50 of that went straight into Bruce Timm's pocket, but it was totally worth it for the pure unadulterated derision he gave me when I asked him to draw He-Man.
My favorite sketch from that con, though, is by Jim Mahfood. It was also the most expensive.
EDIT TO ADD: This thread reminded me, so now my avatar is Kerschl's He-Man.

Chris, I think you need to post your sketches you have.

Azzarello's Batman was more of a joke than anything else.

Do you hang your sketches up? I would so love a room covered in sketch art...
I don't. They are very small, you know. I don't wanna risk ruining them while tearing the pages of the sketchbook.

I think for free the best one you've got is a toss up between Ryan Kelly's Megan McKeenan and Giuseppe Camuncoli's John Constantine.
If I paid a little more attention to artists, I would have gotten something signed by Dustin N'Guyen and Cliff Chiang. N'Guyen would have meant a quick run to the dollar bins to pinch a Batman Detective issue with his cover art and Chiang, well, I should have brought my Dr. Thirteen trade. I could have then gotten that signed by our best buddy, Brian Azzarello.

So envious!

Why would you want a sketch that says "hi arnuad"

You realize you were standing just a meter away from me while I was getting the sketch from N'Guyen? :artist:

I had absolutely no idea - most likely.
Was it on Sunday? If it was, I probably didn't have the energy anymore to go running to the comic bins.
It was Sunday, just before I left. We were waiting for Cameron to come back from the bin with some Coipel comics to get signed.

Oh yeah, did I mention Coipel was cool to us, but he had this fake smile on his face.
I also managed to find three copies of Air #1, which I was particularly proud of considering one of the comic bin people who didn't have one was explaining to me how he didn't have anymore and I should hold on to any I get since it's going to be the next big thing.
Another comic bin guy thought Azzarello's work was awesome, but he himself was a dick. I didn't mention he was our newest buddy. :D
3 copies of Air #1? What are you going to do with 3 copies of Air #1.

One was for me to get signed, since I didn't bring my copy from home. One was for Wally who suddenly became obsessed with Air, after he got a photo with G Willow Wilson and promptly feel in love with her. We were hunting around the bins and he was upset when I found the issue one for myself and demanded if I find another, he gets first dibs over Cam. :D Since I found a third, I gave it to Cam.
I'm afraid I forgot about you at this point. Think you must have left already anyway.
Has Milligan replied to your post at Aaron's place?

Indeed. She's very nice and pleasant. It was fun chatting with her for a bit about her body of work and future projects. Unfortunately, at that point I hadn't a fucking clue what she'd written so when she asked me how I liked some of her other stuff, I had to fess up and admit I hadn't read it. That's when she gave me her bibliography. Now I'm going to track them all down. :reddevil:

Oh yeah, incidently then - How is Cairo? Picked it up yet?

No, I haven't placed my monthly order at Amazon yet because a few books I'm waiting on haven't been released, but when they are I plan to order everything together, Cairo included.

Milligan is mostly not showing at Aaron's place.
Also, I'm still waiting on Willow sending me a signed copy. I'm wondering if she got my adress right.
