My Boss just sent me a friend request and in one fell swoop, destroyed it's fun for me.
I really don't want to "Friend" him but I don't want him to get all pissed off at me.
Why?
:banghead:
Why?
:banghead:
Why?
:banghead:
Did he have to try and "Friend" me? Isn't he aware of the boundaries between employee and employer? This is almost as bad as him asking to hang out with me during a *shudder* social situation

Almost everyone in my office has it and one day we were discussing and my co-worker asked me if I was on it, and I said "yes". I should've just kept my stupid :censored: mouth shut.
Y'know what? I shouldn't be bitching. I deserve this. This is my just punishment. Go ahead, have at me!

No plz. My boss is a homosexual. The last thing I want, or need, is to accept his friend request and then get outed by you. He might think I'm coming on to him and try and ask me out on a date.
While this may seem homophobic, rest assured it is not. If I went trolling for man meat, I could any guy I want. I simply do not want to have to reject my boss's advances and wind up getting fucked (figuratively) at work by being fired.

While I'm not in the same situation, I am friends with past professors on Facebook, and even family members, and so far it's not that big of a deal.
Immediately after adding them I watched my wall and status stuff kinda close to make sure it wasn't overly offensive to them or something they could call me out on, but anymore I just don't care. My family members know how and who I am, so their opinion means nothing on that aspect really, and my professors have never written on my wall, messaged me, or anything, other than one using the chat to contact me really quick because we were working on a research project together. That's really it.
All in all, I think as long as you don't publicly bitch about him or your job on Fbook, you should be safe. Just do it here

I have all my relatives and such on facebook. For a while I shut off my wall but I turned it back on because who cares! They know me as a relative when I'm awesome, and maybe I have some friends that curse and say weird shit, but you can always delete comments from people. Just don't have pictures of you snorting heroin and it'll be fine.
Cam, I don't think using the work and friends line will suffice. In this day and age, it would seem pretty douchey I believe. And it would totally fuck with office politics, no matter how much it shouldn't.

I can't exactly use the "seperation of friends and work" line because I've got a few co-workers on my FB.
But you guys are right, because he is my boss he should recognize that trying to create a relationship/friendship outside the four walls of our office is somewhat inappropriate as it puts me between the proverbial rock and hard place.
If I accept his friend request, he can (potentially) see all my dirty laundry. If I say no, I run the risk of offending him which may result in backlash and awkwardness at work.
Besides, I can tell that this is nothing more than a ploy to get into my pants. He's so transparent.

Contrasting all of this, I'm friends with my boss and previous boss from a different department on Facebook.
I keep any potentially dangerous stuff in private messages and most of the times I'm pretty confidant that my wall, although sometimes provocative, will not get me into any trouble.
Plus my boss is cool. We talk about our favourite TV shows, video games and just generally have a good laugh throughout the day, even when we're waist deep in work.

I don't want to become anything more than a work colleague to my boss. Admittedly, many of my experiences with supervisors have been negative which has skewed my perception of "management". I've seen managers pull some douchey things on their subordinates, co-workers and I've also been on the recieving end of their douchery a few times myself.
Also, I don't want to censor my wall. I want to post pics where I am in homoerotic postions with other men in seedy bars, or administering fellatio to giant statues, or post raunchy, dirty jokes.

To be fair, we take turns - fetching me water. :D
I'm really fortunate in my place of work. I haven't had a bad boss. I've had problems and little arguments, but it I always performed well or exceptionally and got my promotions without any hassle. They always recognised my contribution to the company, operationally and my contribution to good vibes around the office. In fact, why am I tip toeing around the key point here, which is, it's fair to say, my good relationship with my boss can be entirely attributed to my personality. :D
From the looks of it Wally, all you have to do is be more like me and then you'll be able to establish an exemplary good-buddy/good worker relationship with your boss and can freely accept his friend request on Facebook. :D

All jokes aside, it really is great that you're able to have that kind of positive and professional relationship with your bosses.
If you recall I had that kind of relationship with my bosses way back when I was at Citibank and HSBC. It's just that now I see all supervisor's as people who will potentially try and screw you over in the future whether they want to or not and for that reason, I'd just as soon as not get all buddy-buddy with them.

Being a supervisor, I really don't want my interviewers to see me in this way. Most of them I was an interviewer with and they supported my promotion, but at times it feels like I'm treated more like an interviewer and less like a supervisor. There is a fine line for me between being uber-serious and allowing for a relaxed environment.

Meh, but he is your boss. It is kinda weird that he's even asking. I'd ignore it until he asks about it, if he even does, and then add him just to seem like the nice guy.
Best scenario would be that hel never even logs on to Facebook after that and things continue as they are. Worst case would be he tries to be your "friend".
If he asks about any of the images your tagged in, say you have no recollection of those events. If it's the Achievements Never Cease poster, just say "Oh, that's Steph's. She's weird." :)
