Currently.. I'm sick with a cold and it's starting to really suck. I'm stuffed up, but when I blow my nose it's like.. nothing.. it sucks. I hope it's over soon too. Best part, I'm down to like two Day Time cold medicine pills.. and a box full of night time ones.. that's gonna suck when it comes time for class this week..
I suppose I'll see how long I use this thread too... I feel the need to blow my nose again.

So where shall we hang him, Ed? I vote for the dumpster out back...
Sucks you've got a cold! I hate when I know I'm stuffed up but can't blow out anything. Have you tried using a saline solution to blow into your nose, it usually flushes out blocked stuff...

All good.
I'm really enjoying The Office. After this episode is the one Joss directed, so I'm excited. Staying up late just to see it.. which means I should probably prepare some coffee for the morning for class...
My linguistics class totally sucks... but it fits one of the requirements I needed, and the others in the category were Fall only.. maybe I should've waited...

How do you have me from a dumpster?
Any hints for not being able to hack up the phelgm in your lungs?

No.. but I also don't have any of that stuff either.. lol.. i just make sure it's hot enough in the shower for steam to keep my cleared up for a few hours.
I'm gonna have to cave and get cold medicine too... it sucks.

No clue really, but I have season 4 to watch afterwards, and it's in the 5th season now.

02-16-2009, 02:09 PM
Let me know then. I tried watching the first season. It blew.
Tragic Angelus
02-16-2009, 02:30 PM
Yea, the first season was my first introduction to it too and it was terrible. The only good episode is the first one, Diversity day, and after that the season there is terrible. i let it go for a year or so till I saw another one that was great, but was kinda confusing since I didn't know who everyone was.
I watched Season 2 and it was amazing, and I'm sold on it. Definitly jsut power through Season 1, then get into Season 2 and you'll see how it really takes off.
wolf_2099
02-16-2009, 02:33 PM
Why even power through 1 and not skip to 2?
Tragic Angelus
02-16-2009, 02:38 PM
Because 1 is only six episodes, so you spend like.. 2 and a half hours only on it. It really introduces everyone, and what the main characters are like. You can pick up on it after awhile in season 2, but seeing as how season 1 is only like, 6 episodes you can get through it easily.
wolf_2099
02-16-2009, 02:43 PM
2 and a half hours that could be post whoring! I couldn't make it through 1 episode of season 1.

Lovely Lady and gentlemen, you MUST see the endings and beginnings!!! Personally, the fourth and fifth seasons of Angel are my favorites, and Season 1 and 2 are pretty good as well. 3 really is my least favorite but it still has it's moments.
I'd watch HIMYM for Neil Patrick Harris.. after his comeback in Harold and Kumar I was sold on him all over again.

Buffy and Angel seemed like two completely different television shows as they both progressed.
Buffy was able to maintain a lightheartedness despite dealing with more adult issues.
Angel, as a series, dealt with darker and darker issues while slowly losing some its lightheartedness but not its humor.

I agree, 4th and 5th seasons of Angel were the absolute best. Since I have yet to see the entire 5th season, I'll say I thought the 4th season was just balls to the walls awesome.

Better cast, too, I thought.

I also haven't watched the fifth season of Angel yet. I've been putting it off for literally years.
Me too. The TV schedule for that season was ABSURD here. Wait, that was the fourth season. I think they changed time at least twice, stopped halfway the season during summer, only to start over again after summer. Las tthing I saw was the put the kid in the water. After that I just gave up.

Gotta love it when TV stations do that. Like for the Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Do they want it to get canned?
Tragic Angelus
02-17-2009, 04:01 PM
Generally that's how it seems to go. I remember Angel changing nights about 3 times in Season 4.. from Like, Tuesday, to Sunday, to Wednesday where it stayed the remainder of the show.
The second half of Season 5 is phenominal. There's only one episode out of 11 there that I really don't care much for and could ignore, but other than that it's spectacular, and definitely worth watching asap.
I hate how karma tends to align and pile up about 5 different projects on you all due in the same week, within 3 days of each other.. how and why does this happen? Do professors all get together and vote on which weeks to make papers, exams and projects all occur? Or is it just payback for something I haven't realized I did yet?

See: Firefly.
A brilliant show that got shafted mercilessly by shifting time schedules and ultimately got cancelled because people just didn't know when it was supposed to air.
Tragic Angelus
02-17-2009, 04:34 PM
Firefly's other issue was that every episode was aired out of order. While there wasn't an overarcing plot just yet, everything was constantly re-introduced, shoe-horning in mandatory exposition.
And it's not fair.. why must they take revenge upon me for paying their salary? How is it my fault?
Tragic Angelus

My neighbor has either decided to take up guitar.. or a weird electric keyboard thing... this is the first time I've ever heard it.. it's fading in and out like they're walking around, so I'm assuming guitar, but I can't be certain. Also.. I dunno if it's above me, or next to me...
I have two guitars.. but I've yet learned how to play them.. It sucks.
Yup, guitar. That's definitely an amp I hear.
Oh, this could be fun...
Reminds me I want to pick up the bass again. I'm tempted to do it now, but since it's almost 1 AM...
Tragic Angelus
02-17-2009, 05:57 PM
I need to just get up off my ass and get a damn tuner for my guitars so I can actually get into the habit of tuning them myself and then learning more. It's hard to learn when they're outta tune.
How long did you play bass?
Not too long, to be honest. I'd like to play guitar as well, but first bass. I've GOT that thing, so...
Tragic Angelus
02-17-2009, 06:11 PM
Makes sense then.
I've got an acoustic and electric, and I want to learn on the acoustic first.
It sounds now like they have a drum set as well.. what the hell?
LOL, this oughta be good.
I'm so jealous at my cousin, he's got serious talent for the guitar.
Tragic Angelus
02-17-2009, 06:18 PM
I bought both off of a friend of mine who was very good with them, but had just ordered a new one and wasn't going to be using them. So I lucked out there..
It's like.. I heard a guitar earlier, and now it sounds like a heavy bass drum, or maybe just a bass indeed...
It's way too real, and not any song in particular, which makes me discount any kind of guitar hero or rock band at all... it sounds like they're actually trying to play on a real intrument but I have no clue what exactly.. it has to be the upstairs guys, because it keeps moving out over the living room from my room..
Maybe it's the people diagnolaly up...they had a huge stereo system at the beginning of august that drove us all nuts but disappeared by September...
LOL, go do a little bit of detective work. I expect to find the answer here when I wake up! (yes, that's me saying: latah!)

Once you hit a certain age, trying to learn the guitar just becomes sad.
That age is after you graduate college.
Tragic Angelus

It trailed off after awhile.. I also apparently feel asleep so who knows. There's always noise around her, but that was the first I'd heard instruments involved.. Oh well..

Taking a three hour nap kinda screwed me over.. It's 1.30, and I'm not too tired... but I'm not really wanting to do anything but sleep either... if I try to read I'll go to sleep so I might give that a shot.
I'm amazed that I read my Shakespeare ahead of time.. I really don't care for him, and I'm in a class about the Late Plays of Shakespeare.. it's not easy for me because I suck at his work, but I'm holding on as best as I can... Measure for Measure was ok, but I failed to find the comedy in it... oh well it's over, and we start Othello next week which I'm kinda interested in.

Neighbor update: He does indeed have a guitar, according to my roommate, but that was the first time since August that I've heard it. Oh well, was just really surprising to hear that out of nowhere.
Last night it was cold.. and kinda rainy.. which apparently became snowy/sleet weather, and put part of the roads under some black ice.. I had to walk back from the bus stop after my first class, and the weather was so bad I thought my insides were freezing.. and now I look out the window and the shit is melting away and not falling...
I fucking HATE this state's weather changes... I'm very much ready to move to the West coast

Well, maybe it's different State-side, but on the Canadian West Coast the weather can still change every five minutes. When I was in Vancouver it was nice the first day, then rainy the next day, then kind of in the middle on the last day.

Here in Indiana, that's about exactly how it is. With rain yesterday, snow today, and now warm enough for all the snow to melt, and a few days ago it was warm enough to go without a coat...
And yes, I took a very fun and enjoyable nap, and I loved it :D I might just take another one here in a little bit!

English.. I plan on being a High School English teacher, and I want to get a degree in Classical Studies with a focus in Mythology.. and maybe teach that at a college level.
Journalist kicked much more ass than being a teacher.
Also, I don't remember, what's your real age?
Tragic Angelus
02-21-2009, 12:12 PM
I debated on English/Journalism in high school, but towards the end decided on teaching. The thing is though, that I want to do about 20 other different things with my life, so I'm not sure if I'll ever be truly satisfied with any job.
And I'm 21. In my third year of college.. with about 2 more to go...

Do you want to teach at a college level or teach in college? Because they are two different things.
Don't know how it works elsewhere but to teach at a college in NY as a full professor, you need to have a doctorate in your field and be regularly published.
Journalism is fun. I briefly toyed with the idea of being a journalist in college before changing my major (several times); I took a year of journalism in college. Much fun was had.

In a way, you can do both here.. But I do want a Doctorate in Mythology, it's just ways away. But I have professors here who don't yet have their PhDs, but have their Masters, or teach as adjuncts or graduate students. They pay is much less, but yea having a doctorate helps get the job, and yes you do have to publish on a regular basis.
And yes, 21, but forever 12. :)

02-22-2009, 06:42 PM
So I've been lazy as fuck all weekend long.. Yesterday I did nothing but watch TV, and surf the net.. didn't even START contributing to my homework. Today I at least managed to finish reading Twelfth Night, even though I should've read it 2 weeks ago when I was supposed to.
And now I have to write a paper concerning personas and persons and performances in the plays we've read thus far (Hamlet, Twelfth Night, and Measure for Measure) but I'm still not fully certain how I want to go about it.. I'll be doing it later though because I'm about to have some company.. or at least hopefully soon I will. She shoudl be here anytime and I'm not gonna start writing until later on in the evening, like I normally do.
Another week.. I really don't think I can do anymore college, ever again. I'm ready to give up and do nothing forever. That sounds like a plan.
Young AND irresponsible!! Goddamn it Edbert, don't have me chain you to your desk so that you do your homework!
You think we want some jobless young bum in the BX HQ. You'll get a matress in the basement.
Tragic Angelus
02-23-2009, 03:04 PM
Aren't most of us bums anyway? :D
And hey, the paper was finished in less than 2 hours, which is long for me really.. only took so long because I was enjoying hooka at the same time, but other than that I think it went over well when we did our peer review today.
Going to see Cornell West speak tonight on campus. Should be good. i don't know much of him but from what little I've read it should prove interesting. I'm also going to try to get some tickets for Maya Angelou since she'll be here on Sunday. Just hope she hasn't sold out.

So last night.. I had a rather intense, vivid, and memorable dream that has lasted in my head all day long.
And the minute I woke up from it, for one reason or another, it has left me with this utterly ominous feeling.. Like I just know something bad will happen soon.. like some major karmic thing is about to happen in relation to me. Or hell, someone around me and affect me by degrees.
You know how people say that 'the storm is coming' or 'the black clouds are looming'.. well it's not even that.. it's like the storm is here and the clouds are already overhead and stretched out around me.. now I'm just waiting for the lightning to strike somewhere. But i just don't know where, or on whom, it will strike.
But on the bright side, in my dream I did get to have a minor make out with Sarah Chalke from Scrubs. Almost balancing out the feelings, though I think she then caused them.. hmmm...
Ok, headed to the coffee house to try to do some homework. It's a nice evening, and I don't want to be cooped up in here to do it. Gonna walk there for more exercise, since I walked home yesterday and today.
Mr Wallstreet
02-24-2009, 08:33 PM
I wouldn't read much into your dream, at least not yet anyway. It's important to listen to your gut feeling but don't walk on egg shells all day because of it.
Out of curiosity, what was this dream about?
Tragic Angelus
02-25-2009, 12:55 PM
Trust me, it wasn't the dream i payed attention to, but rather the feeling I had after I woke up from it. A feeling that took alllll day to get rid of.
Basically... it was just another 'episode of Scrubs' dream, taking the count up to two, only this time I was both myself and JD at the same time.. kinda weird.. and it was one of those not so happy funny episodes, but like the constant moral reminder at the end the whooole dream...

Right on! It's really a good under-appreciated book, who's fans really only came out whenever it was threatend with cancelation. I really enjoyed Kate Spencer and her turn as a 'I'll do whatever I have to' type of hero. Let me know what you think!!
Mr Wallstreet

See, it really was a good read. The only problem was the hiatus at times made me totally forget what was going on at the time, and keeping up with plot lines was a little shakey. But having it in trade form should correct that.
Eff, I always forget I have this bio thread.. Back home from spring break, unpacked, relaxed, hung out with the roommate.. and now i can't sleep. 2.40 in the morning, and while I don't have major things to do tomorrow, I still have to try and get back on a regular day tomorrow, you know? I read Manhunter, it was good but didn't resonate with me for some reason.
Borrowed issues then gave 'em back to my friend here at work.

Tragic, if I mind another set of the Legion Great Darkness Saga, do you want me to let you know?
I know a couple guys who specialize in back issues from that time and I should be seeing them all over Christmas.

Manhunter was pretty awesome. Don't know anything about the back up strips going on currently though. Oh, other than she's now in Gotham.
I don't care much for the back-up strips.

Ed, do I remember reading at some point you were eventually going to try and get the george perez teen titans stuff?

Probably somewhere down the line yea. I wouldn't mind owning the issues, but the continuity confuses me so much even after having it explained multiple times and reading about it all (New Teen Titans, Tales of the New Teen Titans, etc) and how one became the other.. or something.
But yea at some point I might try to nab a lot of the Perez/Wolfman stuff.

If you're interested, I've seen a bunch of it at flea markets and cheap bins over the past month or so for a buck, and if they still have it next time I go back, I could try grabbing a bunch of it for fifty cents if you're interested.
Condition might not be great, but if you just want to read it, it can work.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. So it's about .50-$1 an issue? About how many issues do most of them have?

I'll let you know, it's been a couple or so since I have check the exact issues (at the guy I know had a bunch), but I'll keep my eye out when I go next, maybe not till weekend after next, as we are about to have a long weekend. Hopefully some will still be there.
If I can score them for fifty cents I'll just buy whatever is there, and if you don't want them then I don't mind getting some 50 cent comics.

Where there any story arcs in particular you were interested in?

Not necessarily. The Judas Contract would be huge, if only to have it in singles but it's pretty rare to come across the entire storyline together from what I gather. I've got the four Perez/Wolfman trades that are out, but I'm down for most anything. I really appreciate that man and let me know anything you find. I'm sure I'll be interested in it!

I might be able to get the some of that storyline for 2 bucks an issue, if my back issue guy has a second set.
I think he sold me the whole set for 10, so maybe the 1st nightwing cost me 4.
I should say, I know a guy who deals only in back issues, he works out of a flea market and has found me some great fucking stuff, and he is still pretty cheap. Most of the back issues are 2 or 3 bucks, but he page counts everything he sells, and under prices pretty much everything.
It is where I got the great darkness saga, and judas contract, all for maybe, $20.
That's if I don't see it in the other bins, I'll let you know when I end up going.
Also, I really don't mind looking, because even if I don't see anything I want, I can at least have something to show for digging through those dusty & gross boxes.

I spoke to my back issues guy today.
If he comes across any he just wants to move, he'll let me know, and I'll in turn let you know.
Also, he said he might have some reading copies of Great Darkness Saga, beat on reading copies, but in 1 piece, he could sell for 50 cents.

How many issues is the GDS again? Like 5 or 7? I could do that I think.

So around 3 or 4 for the run. I think I can do that. If you think it'll happen pm me and we'll figure out a few things

Sure. Even if it doesn't work for you, not a huge deal for me.
I just figured I could ask if you're interested while I have him digging through some of the same stuff for myself.

Awesome man I appreciate it! I've been waiting for them to re-release the trade now that there's a new ongoing but it doesn't look like it'll happen. I'm finishing up the last trade of the Three-boot Legion series now.
But just keep me updated on how things go and what you and he find out.
