But I don't know what.

Suggestions?
Serious suggestions, and I hold the right to deny them. :D

Can you (in all seriousness) draw an average guy? Average height, weight, build, clothes?I've been struggling with a description with a character and I need a place to start. http://smilies.vidahost.com/cwm/3dlil/sad.gif

MGM

I can manage that.

Wait, I think I did neglect to say it'll all be quick sketches that might be worked up 'till good drawings. But I suppose a quick sketch works?

ChimeraCreative

Absolutely, I just need some guidance. >.<

Feel free to critique, even though it's a sketch. And anatomically not entirely correct. ;)

First off, you have smashing penmanship, I like the decisive lines. Mine looks like a little left handed boy scrawled it.

I like the sketch and I like the style you have. The hair's a little Johnny Bravo, but there's really nothing wrong with it. The clothes are casual and I never would have thought about the half rolled sleeves. You even thought to include a watch, how clever. ^_^ The way he's walking and the way his head's turned it totally looks like he should be talking to some hot red headed chick.

All in all, I think it's a fantastic sketch. What would you name Mr Average Ordinary? ^_^

MGM
02-17-2009, 03:35 PM
Mr. Average Ordinary would naturally be called Joe. And I always wear my sleeves rolled up, 's why I drew 'em that way.

Speaking about the watch, if you want you could add a wristband to his other wrist.

No, I like him the way he is. The shoulder bag is a good prop or indication of how busy everyone is these days. You kept the ornamentation to a dull roar and made it all practical, which I dig. But I must ask, did you cut off the feet on purpose or run out of room? I know some folks despise drawing feet or shoes.

I'm surprised you don't draw more often, Mic. Do you have skill or enjoyment in doing backgrounds? Does your skill as an architect give you a keen eye and insight to the details of cars, buildings and shrubbery?

MGM

Uh... I ran out of space. Also, the shoes aren't really necessary for the gist of the sketch. But yeah, I ran out of space.

I don't really find the rest to draw anymore. I like it, though. And if I'd do it more often, I'd be really good at it again. Right now, I kinda suck. I've never done backgrounds, BTW. And the details of buildings and the such? That's what 3D software is for. ;) No, but I seriously would like to pick it up again. Hence the requesty page, so I can do some stuff people've asked for.

But for now, this is the quality you'll get, not the Meek or Bisc stuff. :D

I like your sketching style very much MGM. It's clean, concise and easy to "read", but still has a creative je-ne-sais-quoi. :D

A creative what?

Thanks for the opinion, BTW. :) I usually don't trace my sketches with fineliner, but it seems like it's a good idea. It does make it look clean.

Woooooow! Your picy is awesome! The guy's natural posture rocks! :D
I can't imagine being able to draw with that many straight lines. :(
I've got curves on the brain. :p

Maybe next you could draw a werewolf?

MGM
02-18-2009, 07:59 AM
Yes, I rather like how natural the pose looks (well, minus the left hand, I don't think it'd ever fall that much behind the body).

And I can do werewolf. I hope. ;)

Ty reminded me on the phone tonight, you owe her one werewolf, Mic. She's pretty excited by it. I gotta say, I love being able to see your work, gauge what kinda artistic level you're on. ^_^ All in good fun, Sunshine. ^_^

Em Gee Em or Lee Jim Em

It's a phonetic joke folks. Phonetic.

MGM, although not anatomically correct, it's not noticeable for being wrong, if your full-on work can demonstrate the same level of acceptable anatomy, some people make a career out of less than anatomically sound art, like John Romita Jnr, whose style is so dynamic in its own special way, it doesn't matter how anatomically implausible his art is.

I think the sketch is awesome!

IrishCream
02-28-2009, 08:37 PM
I agree with Stocky...you're no John Romita Jr!

But it's still a cool sketch :artist:
